FACE Tournament

Conditions since Edition 16 to 19

Time-control: 40 moves in 4 minutes and repeating (adapted to CCRL)
Real time: 2 min (CPU i7 3630QM)
Chess-Gui: Arena-GUI (mainly), in some case if an engine is not running under Arena CUTE-GUI is taken
CPU used: Each engine use only 1 Core
Pondering: OFF
Hash: max 256 MB
Book: all engine use generic book “gm2001.bin” - converted for Arena
length of Book: limited to 12 moves per side maximum
Booklearning: OFF
Endgame tablebases: 5 piece tablebases
EGTB hash: 32 MB

Conditions up to Edition 15

Time-control: 40 moves in 5 minutes, repeating
Ponder: Off
Chess GUI: ARENA
CPU: Intel 3,8 GHz 4 cores (for tournaments only 1 core was used)
OS: MS Windows 7 x64
Hash Tables: All engines up to 128 MB
Pawn Hash: 16 MB
EGTB: No.

  • In the German chess magazine “CSS” (paper edition - year 2004/2005) the EGTB controversy was discussed.
  • Those test-results said it is better to do without (the speed of an engine is slowed by 30 per cent when using them).
  • Furthermore, not all engines use tablebases.

OpeningBook:

  • All Engines use their own book if available (For Edition 6 there was own book only for Division A to C, others used Arena mainbook.
  • Since Edition 7 all engine use their own book, for engines without a book, Arena mainbook is used.

  • For Edition 1 to Edition 6 there were two editions per year.
  • Starting with Edition 7 it will be different - I will hold tournaments when I have free time and have fun
