NOTE: I was wrong about Cyclone, Demon, Fire, RobboLito and Toga II 2.0SE being
down. I was checking the old URL (cyclonechess.com), which has been taken down.
It's hard keeping these links current!

Gullchess - someone got more information?
Hello all
Norbert Raimund Leisner said Gullchess is a clone:
on the other hand Dann Corbit seemed to look at:
http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34835
someone got more information about that engine
in a short test it seems to be at 2400-2500 or may be higher

Hi Gerhardt,
I don't think that GullChess is a clone.
If you click on the 'clone' link it leads to Google (France). The 'clone' link may have been pasted into the message by mistake.
Best regards,
Ron
Gullchess - question to Norbert Raimund Leisner

it is a open source project at sourceforge. The current version is quite strong 2800-2900 strength. It is an original engine , not a clone of anything. Karger

It's coming from Thinking-a-Lot (Vadim Dev). After fast look at code it doesn't look as direct copy of anything. At least it's not Ippo clone. It's certainly not SF or Crafty clone. It's based on Magic bitboards.
Search looks like it's own completely, move gens are closest to Ippo (there are couple of very similar things), eval is simplified, with again structure a little bit like Ippo and a bit like Strelka. UCI is Strelka like. Material and static evals are really simple, table like.
And yes, it's fully C code (not C++).

Norbert did not write the word 'clone'. His post was edited. Norbert is asking for clarification:
http://translate.google.de/translate?hl=de&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Flefounumerique.xooit.com%2Ft891-Crab-1-0-be...
Just for the record, I have never edited anyone's posts here!
I suspect that it was Crab that was the 'problem', as it is a legitimate Stockfish derivative. Many computer chess enthusiasts don't understand open source software nor the purpose of creating new forks. In open source, most improvements developed in new forks get back-ported to the original project. This is a desirable result! The new fork always has a different name than the program it derives from. This is the way open source works and it works very well. There is a world of difference between a clone (where someone lies, and claims a program written by someone else as his own original creation) and a derivative (also known as a 'fork').

Gullchess - respectfull admin
Hi Ron
thanks for pointing out your position
as shown in this case the admin there admit that he edit the post without gave a notify about it in Norbert´s posting - so one do think it was Norberts post ... cant believe that - its seems we are back in the very dark middle ages
so nowadays someone had to be very carefully where to post
btw: although he had "very weighty reasons" I will not visit this forum again

Hi Gerhard,
The forum administrator at the other forum is secretly editing posts. He claims that GullChess is a clone but provides no evidence. Worst of all he makes it appear that Norbert makes the clone accusation. This is a very serious action. I have removed the link to this site from the Computer-Chess Wiki 'Links' page.
Best regards,
Ron
